About Self-ish
Hi! Welcome to Self-ish, and thanks so much for reading!
At Self-ish, you’ll find posts on self-exploration, personal development and living life. There’s posts on everything from working through procrastination to squashing self-doubt to struggling with grief to getting inspiration in unexpected places to being authentic.
Ultimately, Self-ish is about getting to know ourselves a bit better. About accepting ourselves just as we are, but still challenging ourselves. It’s about learning something new, looking at life from another lens and finding fulfillment.
I share slices from my life and search out great advice and insight from the experts. I’m here to contribute to the conversation, and I hope you will, too.
About Me
My name is Margarita, and I’m a writer who specializes in body image and mental health.
I received my B.S. in psychology from Florida State University and my master’s in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University. At both schools, I focused my research on body image and eating disorders, subjects I’m very passionate about.
Currently, I live in Florida with my boyfriend, Brian (who I may or may not force to read these blog posts). I immigrated to the U.S. when I was seven years old from Moscow, Russia (I feel like I have to specify because there’s a Moscow in Florida, which I find a bit bizarre).
When I’m not blogging or writing, you’ll find me reading tons of other blogs, glued to the TV watching design shows, practicing Pilates, shopping till I drop and enjoying life with my loved ones – oh, and definitely brainstorming for my blogs.

I’ve long been a fan of your work and can’t wait to see where your authentic, twenty-something voice takes you in this blog. No doubt that the topics will be timely, relevant and honest.
Self-ish is bookmarked (smile).
Dear Margarita –
I run groups for people traumatized by war and genocide and find a high incidence of sexual abuse. Do you have lists of therapists who specialize in working with this issue? We need to find highly skilled therapists.
thank you!
RG
Hi RG,
Thank you for stopping by! Unfortunately, I don’t have a list of therapists who specialize in this issue. I can only imagine how challenging – and rewarding – your work is. I checked out your Web site, and read that you’re the daughter of Holocaust survivors. My family, too, was closely affected by the Holocaust. Again, I applaud the amazing work you’re doing!
Hi Rita,
I love the website and the information!! Good luck with your blogs!!
Hello Margarita,
What a wonderful surprise: all these smart pages and thoughts and even your last name is the same as mine… Good job and mazal tov!
Marina Tartakovsky, San Francisco.
Thanks so much, Marina! How cool that there’s another Tartakovsky in the world.
It’s definitely a unique last name. BTW, I’m so jealous you live in San Francisco. I’ve never been but it looks beautiful. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!
